President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama greet Tuskegee Airmen prior… to a screening of Red Tails Movie in the Family Theater of the White House, Jan. 13, 2012.

Tuskagee Airmen, as well as members of the cast and crew of the movie,  joined the President and First Lady Michele Obama to watch George Lucas’ movie about the legendary African-American fighter pilots during World War II.

“Red Tails”stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard and was released on January 20th. George Lucas, who produced the film, said that he had a hard time finding backing for the movie due to its large African-American cast. Lucas said:

“They don’t believe there’s any foreign market for it and that’s 60 percent of their profit…I showed it to all of them and they said ‘No. We don’t know how to market a movie like this.’”

The Washington Post reports that Lucas put up $58 million of his own money to make sure that the movie got made.

Here’s the trailer for “Red Tails.”

Terrance Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr. and the 7 remaining members of the Tuskagee Airmen attended the premier of “Red Tails” in the presence of former president George H.W. Bush. Howard said he shared popcorn with the former Commander in Chief and is “way past excited” about watching the film with President Obama.

Howard said:

“It shows the significance of the film.”
