Rick Ross released what was potentially the most anticipated song from his upcoming album, God Forgives, I Don’t. The record, “3 Kings,” features heavyweights Dr. Dre and Jay-Z, and is produced by Jake One. Shortly after the cut was released, Rozay called in to Hot 97′s Funkmaster Flex to discuss its origins.

“It’s funny, man, but I actually spoke with D.O.C. from the West Coast, and D.O.C. told me Dre was a huge fan,” the Maybach Music Group boss began of how he linked with the Compton-bred legend, with whom he had not yet worked. “I’ve been a fan of big homie, and I had been expressing that openly for a while. We just made it happen. I got on the phone with Dre; he kept his word. He came down to Miami, we got in the studio. We walked into the studio for the first time, I was so excited. We knocked out five songs that first night. We worked on his album, as well. You can expect some more big records coming to us. I feel we made some incredible music. I’m excited. I got to work on his new project with him. Homie gave me a lot of tips. That’s the big O.G. I really admire him.”

As for the connection with Jay, he and Ross have worked together a number of times in the past, and Rozay was eager to recapture that magic. “When it come to Jay, that’s my family,” Ross said. “I respect [him]; I’m a soldier for life. I already had Jay on another record, but I reached out to my big bro again, told him this was the one. He made that happen for me, as well. It was just an idea in the back of my head when we was putting the record together. I was like, Wow, this some king music right here. When I reached out to Hov, he landed somewhere in a different country and made it happen for me.”
