(HOUSTON) — African-American leaders in Houston are calling on the public to support three children left without parents after their father killed their mother, and then killed himself.
It happened last week. Candice Williams was shot to death in her bed as her 1-year-old child, Paris, slept with her, according to Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

“Asleep and made warm by her mother’s body, and then to still be next to her mother’s dead body,” Jackson Lee said.

Williams also leaves behind 7-year-old Neira and 6-year-old Torian.
Rev. Bill Lawson noted that there’s been an outpouring of support for a similar tragedy in Spring.
“If we can respond to the Stay tragedy in Spring then we certainly ought to be able to respond to this tragedy.”

Those who want to help Williams’ children can donate to the Candace Williams Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo branch.
Jackson Lee said she will introduce legislation to curb gun violence and increase penalties on those who use a gun to commit domestic violence.
Williams’ funeral will be held Saturday.
