Kelly Price's second album, "Mirror, Mirror," featured a cover the Shirley Murdock's "As We Lay." I am not usually a fan of artist who cover songs, but I must say Kelly's version of "As We Lay," which honestly didn't stray much from the original version, was one of my favorites.

Today's Manic Monday is dedicated to the old school classics from some of the best men in the game - Teddy P; Luther (or Lufa as I like to call him); and Barry White.

I am never one for favorites; I like too many things to have them.  Chris Brown has tried to relieve me of that illness.  My favorite song these days is “Deuces.” The beat is sick and little Chris, Tyga and Kevin McCall know just how to work it. This Manic Monday is dedicated to one […]

I am a Mary J. Blige fan. I own every album she has ever made and probably will always support the Queen of Hip Hop Soul.  To me she is a genius.  She doesn’t have the best pipes, but she puts her heart into every record and she sings things that women can relate to.  […]

Ricky, Mike and Ronnie (Bell, Biv, DeVoe) made an appearance in the Queen City this weekend.  The free show at Charlotte’s EpiCenter was packed tight and the guys proved that you only get finer with wine.  This week’s Manic Monday is dedicated to the three of the guys from one of America’s best R&B boy […]

When Gwen Guthrie released “Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent” in 1986 she made a women’s anthem that resonated with women in the present, past and future.  The song still bumps hard for women. Men, are you listening?

“Back in the Day” by Ahmad used to be my jam.  It was released the year I graduated from high school, and I thought I had enough experiences to talk about what happened back in the day. I was about to embark on the journey of discovery (JOD).  JOD was the time between high school […]

Growing up the sounds of Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills and Whitney Houston filled my home each and every day. This is probably one of her best songs. Enjoy a little "Sweet Love" today.

Today Heavy D turns 43. Heavy D is the former leader of the hip-hop group Heavy D  & The Boyz.  The group maintained a sizable audience during much of the 90’s and helped put money-earning Mount Vernon on the map with hits like “Mr. Big Stuff,” “The Overweight Lover,” and “Now That We Found Love.” […]

“I love music … and it loves me right back.” When I read that tweet over the weekend, I retweeted, shouted and all that. It resonated with my soul because I do love music. I am pretty partial to hip-hop and R&B.  Music is what helps me get through the day on many days … […]

I used to love the Good Girls.  Seems like I might have been one of the only people who did.  It’s Monday and I thought I’d give you something with an uptempo groove. For those of you who don’t know The Good Girls…here’s what Wikipedia says: The Good Girls were recording artist for Motown Records, […]
