Radio Facts recently released the Top 30 Most Prominent Black Women in Media list.  Radio One’s founder Cathy Hughes was number 2 on the list, just behind media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

In 1979, Hughes and then husband Dewey Hughes founded the media company Radio One and later expanded into TV One, the company went public in 1998, making Catherine L. Hughes the first and only African-American female to head a publicly traded corporation. In the 1980’s, Cathy Hughes created the very successful urban radio format called The Quiet Storm.

DeDe McGuire, co-host of the Doug Banks Show, which can be heard on My927Charlotte.com each day from 3 – 6 p.m., was also on the list.  She was ranked at 14.

Congratulations to all the women of Radio One who made the list.
