A Pennsylvania man attempted to run down two Port Authority Police officers Wednesday night near the Holland Tunnell entrance in a bizarre incident. Matthew Christian Cash was speeding down a restricted fire lane by Varick and Watts streets when he nearly ran into the police officers patrolling the tunnel. According to the New York Post, Cash wound up crashing his silver Audi into the police cruisers, where he started screaming when officers tried to subdue him:
I want to kill cops.
Cash was handcuffed and placed in the back of the squad car, where he attempted to kick out the window. He was later arrested and carted off to Bellevue Hospital, where charges are currently pending. According to the police report, Cash and a female passenger were driving when he got a phone call that caused him to become upset right before he ran his car into the police cruiser. Cash is no stranger to run-ins with the law. In the past, Cash was arrested for charges including, criminal mischief, assault and reckless endangerment. In November 2013, Cash was booked for domestic assault against his girlfriend and hurling a bag of oranges at his 5-year-old son.
Cash’s car crash is the latest incidents surrounding attacks against the police. Monday night two police officers were shot and wounded as they were preventing a robbery in The Bronx. Theree weeks before then, two police officers were gunned down while sitting in their patrol car in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.
