An estimated 30,000 fans braved chilly temperatures for the Carolina Panthers Pep Rally at Romare Bearden Park today. Fans were treated to the the Purrcussion Band, the Top Cats and of course Sir Purr. They also endured cheers led by Mayor Jennifer Roberts, and County Commission Chair Trevor Fuller. Gov. Pat McCrory took the stage to a chorus of boos, but it didn’t matter. McCrory introduced Panthers coach Ron Rivera and the crowd went crazy. Panthers Josh Norman, Thomas Davis and Jonathan Stewart were among the handful of Panthers who attended.

Star quarterback, Cam Newton did not attend. Newton has been in national headlines recently for his comments that he endures criticism because people are scared of an African-American quarterback with his talent.
