It’s evident that Marvin Gaye’s family is not playing! We all know that they sued and won their $7.2 million lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Farrell for sampling Marvin’s “Got To Give It Up” to make “Blurred Lines.”  Well, now the family of Ed Townsend, the co-writer for Marvin Gaye’s song, “Let’s Get It On” is now suing pop singer Ed Sheeran.  The Townsend’s family claims that Sheeran sampled Marvin’s “Let’s Get It On” to make the song “Thinking Out Loud” and they want him to pay….to the tune of $7.4 million!  To be specific the Townsend family claims that Sheeran used harmonic progressions, and melodic and rhythmic elements central to “Let’s Get It On” and Townsend co-wrote the lyrics and created the musical composition for “Let’s Get It On.”  So far, we have not confirmed if the Gaye family will join the Townsend family in this lawsuit, but something tells me they will.
